The AVR1 comes fully sealed and tested. All you need to do is connect wires to the screw-terminal connector.
It has been designed to the highest specifications, with ruggedness as an essential requirement.
The AVR1 uses a linear regulator, which is ideal for powering servos. They can supply the peak currents required by motors, which switch-mode power supplies sometimes have trouble coping with.
